Unless you are enrolled under our Youth Guarantee funded courses, it is important you have your own device to support your learning journey. More information on types of devices plus how to access the NZMA student discount at PBT is all in our BYOD information sheet, found here. Remember that you may be eligible for up to $1,000 per year in Course Related Costs to support you in the purchase of your device. For more information checkout the StudyLink website.
There is free WIFI at all NZMA campuses.
Class times and duration
A semester is generally 20 weeks, depending on which course you are taking.Class start and finish times are different for each course and each campus, please check with our Student Enrolment Advisor.
Study outside of class
Every course is different, and some weeks of the course there’ll be less work required outside of class than others, depending on when assessments and assignments are due. In general though, around one or two hours of extra study a day should ensure students stay on track.
Class attendance
It’s really important students have full attendance – if you miss out on work it can be very difficult to catch up and can really reduce your chances of success. Poor attendance might also impact student loans or allowances you might be entitled to.
Study concerns and support
If you are worried about your child or family members studying, you can talk with one of our Student Enrolment Advisors. However, attending the course is your family member’s responsibility and we cannot give out specific information about them without their prior written permission.
If your child or family member doesn't get along with their tutor or another staff member the best way to deal with the situation is for the student to try and resolve the problem by discussing it directly with the individual staff member. However, if they don’t feel comfortable doing this, one of our Student Enrolment Advisors will be happy to help.
Groups and clubs
We have a variety of groups that might be of interest, such as Kapa Haka and the Student Council Group. Becoming involved in campus life makes for a more enriching experience at NZMA, so we encourage students to participate.
Getting to and from campus
All NZMA campuses are well-located for public transport and students may be entitled to travel discounts. Check the individual campus pages for more details.
