Are you interested in improving the health and well-being of your community?
In this course, you will learn about Aotearoa’s health and well-being sector, then focus on gaining the knowledge and skills to become an effective community health worker. You'll learn how to work with people from diverse backgrounds, collaborate with your colleagues, and meet the needs of people with community service needs.
On Campus: You’ll experience a unique combination of practical on-campus learning and flexible learning from home. This means you'll have the choice to work and study at the same time if you choose.
You'll also gain industry experience at a healthcare provider as part of your training.
Online: You'll need to be working or volunteering with a registered healthcare provider to take advantage of our online study option. This will help you advance your skills while you continue to work, giving you the flexibility, tools and resources to learn anytime, anywhere at your own pace.
You will learn:
Aotearoa’s Community health work practices.
About the importance of communication and cultural identity.
Tikanga and hauora Māori.
How to engage and communicate with Tangata, family and/or whānau.
To apply knowledge of Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
Develop your leadership and self-care skills.
How to contribute to safety and quality in a healthcare organisation.
Reflection on the impacts of the wider health and wellbeing sectors.

General
Acceptable background check including NZ Police Vet.
Academic
Hold a qualification at Level 2 NZQF or equivalent.
English Language:
International students: General or Academic IELTS score of 5.5 with no band score lower than 5, or equivalent NZQA Recognised International English Proficiency.
Domestic students with ESOL: must be proficient in English language.
Distance Mode:
Be employed with a minimum of 20 hours per week in a relevant health and wellbeing setting (paid or voluntary role)
Access to a computer or laptop, a microphone and a reliable internet connection.
